Kamolnan Chearavanont, the co-founder of an organisation called “Voices”, made the call during the human rights segment of the plenary session Thursday morning.
“Each of us here at OYW represent a nation. Think of the 10 million stateless people who don't have their own,” she said, drawing loud applause.
Kamolnan founded Voices after making a field trip to the northern part of Thailand. The organisation aims to give a voice to stateless individuals as well as victims of rape in the hope that the government will change its stance on these issues.
During the session, she urged everyone to pressure their own governments to solve issues involving the stateless and rape victims as soon as possible.
