Pope greets Muslims, calls them "our brothers"

SUNDAY, AUGUST 11, 2013

Rome (dpa) - Pope Francis on Sunday called Muslims "our brothers" as he sent greetings to them after the recent end of their fasting month of Ramadan.

He said he hoped "Christians and Muslims strive to promote respect for one another, particularly through the education of new generations."
His comments echoed a Vatican message issued at the end of Ramadan, which occurred in most parts of the Muslim world on Thursday. The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue had
written the message for the pope in recent years, but this year, Francis composed it himself.
