What is the Definition of BEYC?

British Early Years Centre is exactly that. We specialise in Early Years education.

Why would parents pick BEYC for their child?

There are a few reasons why parents would choose BEYC for their children.Firstly they understand the benefit of immersing their child in a fully English speaking environment. The early years of a child’s life are arguably the most important to learn multiple languages. It is well known that children use a different area of the brain than adults when learning languages. A fully English speaking environment is therefore the perfect choice for many Thai parents. The children are exposed to English for around 7 hours of the day and Thai for the remainder of their time at home. For western parents we are a good option as we offer the same education and curriculum as the big International schools at a fraction of the cost.

I think parents in Thailand are realising that a small specialist early years preschool is a better choice than the bigger, over-priced schools. BEYC is also British owned and run. This we believe makes a big difference in almost all decisions regarding the school and the children. We have small classes, excellent support and we use the latest teaching technology and ICT in the classrooms. When looking at the competitor schools in Bangkok today, it is easy to see why BEYC has been so successful over the last two years, since we opened. We have really seemed to hit a niche in the education marketplace.Affordable, quality education in English is now an option.

What are the principles of BEYC regarding managing?

One of the biggest differences at BEYC is the management. It is British run, with western ideals and management style. Our staff are so very important to us and we never forget that we would not be where we ware today without them. From the maids, right through to the school manager. Everyone is treated equally with a respect for the esponsibilities they have and role that they have in the overall running of the school. It was not long ago that I was an employee myself. I am well aware of the problems and issues that Thai and foreign staff at schools have. We do our utmost to foresee problems and conflicts and always try to resolve them as soon as possible. We not only pay our staff well but we never ask too much of them. They have a very important job to do looking after the children and as long as they do this to the best of their ability, I am happy. I don’t like to waste their time during holidays and I like them to go home as soon as the school day is over. Teachers need a lot of rest and must be happy in their jobs, in order to perform at their best.

What is the determination of the owner who opened BEYC?

The owners of BEYC are both British trained and qualified teachers. The determination to open the British Early Years Centre in Bangkok came about as a result from years of experience working in International schools in Bangkok. Our experiences as teachers were very negative and we observed that the early years departments in these big schools were often not given the level of resources and training that they deserved. The ‘Play and Learn’ curriculum seemed too often, too heavily weighted on play and less so on the learning. As teachers, we wanted to show that children can achieve much more at this very important age. For example, All our children start Phonics from a very young age. This is done through songs and actions at first and progresses onto daily reading and writing practice. By the time the children reach Kindergarten they can all blend small words together and even though they might not yet have the fine motor skills to actually write, they have the knowledge and skills. We see amazing results in our Kindergarten as a result of this. Our overall literacy levels are just fantastic.

What is the vision of the owner?

Our vision is for BEYC to be known as one of the leading educators for Early Years in Bangkok. Our academic results are already amazing and our parents are very happy. We are still relatively unknown however.

What are the expectations of children at BEYC?

We have extremely high expectations of all of our children. We conduct detailed assessment on all curriculum areas twice termly and our teachers constantly refer to the children’s assessment data in order to plan lessons effectively and fill any gaps in a child’s knowledge. This really is the level of attention that any early years educator should give each and every child.Small classes make this easier for our staff but also training is very important. When our children finish at BEYC they not only receive a certificate from us but they leave us speaking good clear English and are able to read and write in English independently. Children are equipped with not only knowledge, but more importantly, they have the skills to read and are equipped with a wealth of strategies to tackle problems in maths and science.

How is BEYC different from other places?

The quality of our education, our management style and our very reasonable prices. Oh and our honesty. We do not hide things from parents and involve them as much as we can in the education of their child. This, we are told is a very refreshing quality in Thailand.
