Northeast hit by drought

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DPMD) named 52 districts in seven provinces as drought disaster zones yesterday.

DPMD chief Chatchai Phromlert said 64 districts in nine provinces, namely Kalasin, Sakhon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Beung Kan, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Mahasarakham, have not had any rain since October 1 and 52 of them had now become disaster zones.
