House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont on Thursday named Wattana Sengpairoh to lead the House defence team on charter change.

Wattana, a former Pheu Thai MP, is presently spokesman for the Office of House Speaker.
The Constitution Court will convene on July 5 and 6 to hear arguments for and against the charter change bill.
Speaking following his appointment, Wattana said the defence would summon two opposition Democrats, Abhisit Vejjajiva and Suthep Thuagsuban to testify as witnesses.
“The charter change has a clear clause against toppling the democratic rule with the King as head of state and Abhisit and Suthep have conceded to and supported this clause,” he said.
The gist of the five complaints contends that the Constitution Drafting Assembly, if formed, will introduce a new charter and not amend the existing provisions on the political system.
