The superstore in Pathumwan district features local brand products that make perfect souvenirs in representing Thailand’s charms and uniqueness to global audiences.
Located in the heart of the city, opposite CentralWorld shopping mall and near the famous Erawan Shrine, Big C Rajdamri has gained a reputation among foreign tourists as a shopping landmark that offers Thai products and delicacies at affordable prices under one roof.
“Over the years, Big C has served as an ambassador that represents ‘Thainess’ via products and services of local entrepreneurs and communities to foreign visitors,” said Aswin Techajareonvikul, chief executive officer and president of Big C Retail Corporation Plc.
“We are proud to promote Thailand’s soft power to the world, in line with our slogan of ‘A Thai mall with customers at its heart’.”
Aswin said in the first nine months of 2023, Big C Rajdamri had welcomed over 5 million Thai and foreign shoppers, up 210% from the same period last year. The company expects even more shoppers to pour in and browse Thai products during the tourism high season, which starts from late November to January next year.
The popularity of Big C Rajdamri has prompted the company to plan the launch of five new “tourist stores” in primary and secondary tourist cities across Thailand, for example, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai, with each location focusing on products that carry geographical indication (GI) of its respective province.
“Big C’s tourist stores would differ from ordinary branches in several aspects, most notably they would have a special zone displaying souvenirs and local products tailored specifically for foreign visitors,” said Aswin.
Thai-brand souvenirs that are highly popular at Big C include high quality "elephant pants", luggage under the Besico brand, snacks of BITEE brand, crispy stick biscuits, dehydrated seaweed and squid, personal care products under KA-LA brand, ready-to-drink Thai tea, seasonings of Happy Price Pro brand, dried mangoes, and spicy crispy peanuts.
Besides selling souvenirs, Big C also presents Thai craftsmanship to foreign shoppers in a tangible way via hand-made woven baskets and carved wooden furniture. These items are ideal for home decoration and also remind visitors of their good times while visiting Thailand.
Aswin added that one of the advantages of shopping for souvenirs at Big C was the VAT refund for tourists, offered to every spending of over 2,000 baht.
“To apply for VAT refund, simply bring the receipt of over 2,000 baht to the customer service counters, where our staffers would handle the rest in no time, freeing you from the hassles so that you could have more time for shopping,” he said.
Tourists can enjoy not only Thai products at Big C, but also experience a variety of signature Thai cuisines at the store’s spacious FoodAvenue. Treat your taste buds with authentic Thai dishes and desserts from famous restaurants from all over the country at friendly prices, completing your experience of Thai cultural indulgence in one location.
