Digital Economy ministry holds talks with corporates on tackling unemployment

Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta on May 8 held a brainstorming session with representatives of 19 state agencies and companies on ways to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on jobless people after the end of the contagion.

The minister, together with Nattapon Nimmanphatcharin, director of Digital Economy Promotion Agency (Depa), discussed the matter with representatives from 19 state agencies and companies -- IBM Thailand, Dell Technologies (Thailand), Cisco Systems (Thailand), Huawei Technologies (Thailand), Denso (Thailand), Microsoft (Thailand), Hitachi Asia (Thailand), Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation (Thailand), Siam Kubota Corp, TV Direct, Advanced Info Service, Total Access Communication, True Corp, CAT Telecom, TOT, Krungthai Bank, Bank of Ayudhya, Siam Commercial Bank, and Kasikorn Business-Technology Group.
The meeting focused on how to provide assistance to the jobless, employees with salary cuts, and new graduates.
Depa will also develop the "National Digital Workplace Platform" and will work with private digital companies in arranging matching of job candidates and companies looking for non-technical workers to programmers and data scientists.
Depa will also coordinate with the digital companies to develop courses for those who want to reskill and upskill.
