The US suspension of tariff privileges under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), which comes into effect on April 25, will affect 573 Thai products, a Cabinet meeting on March 3 was told, Deputy Government Spokeswoman Rachada Thanadirek said.

The businesses in the listed products will pay 4-5 per cent more taxes, amounting to a total of Bt1.5 billion to Bt1.8 billion and the Commerce Ministry is seeking remedial measures for these businesses.
Rachada added that the government will not import any pig parts from the US as Thailand has a law against the use of red meat accelerator due to food safety issues. Thai people not only eat red meat but also the testicles and organs of pig which are affected by the accelerator.
