Logistics firm invests Bt12m ahead of AEC

Linfox Transport (Thailand), a logistics provider, has invested Bt12 million in improving the capacity of its control room in preparation for greater competition in two years.
Since the new technology was adopted last month, the control room has been able to monitor up to 1,000 trucks at the same time.
The aim is to boost confidence among customers in Thailand and ensure the safety of trucks and their products, chief executive officer Michael Byrne said.
“Thailand has the highest potential as a regional transport hub in Asean. Once the Asean Economic Community kicks off in 2015, regional connectivity in terms of trade and transport will increase. We need to be prepared for the growth,” he said.
“It’s highly possible that the industry will draw new investment from local and international companies after the activation of the AEC.”
The value of Thailand’s logistics market is estimated at Bt300 billion per year.
After starting up in 1956 in Melbourne, Linfox now operates more than 3.8 million square metres of warehousing and nearly 5,000 vehicles across 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with about 19,200 employees. In Thailand, Linfox has offered its services to a range of clients including Tesco Lotus and Unilever.
Peter Fox, chairman of Linfox Logistics, was in Bangkok to open the Thailand control room, which delivers real-time visibility and control of customers’ supply-chain control-room operations across the country.
“Customers can receive up-to-date information on dispatch and arrival times, order and location updates and the temperature of our refrigerated vehicles,” said, James Allmand, the country manager for Thailand.
“The centre’s weather-monitoring system allows operators to respond rapidly to road closures, adverse weather conditions and other issues,” he said.
The control room’s security response centre protects the safety of employees and customers’ assets with the assistance of security cameras covering Linfox operations nationally.
