Faster-than-expected recovery

Thailand's export sector should stage a recovery soon, thanks to the lower-than-expected contraction in December, said Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.

He said that December export value contracted only by 2 per cent despite floods which submerged a number of plants and caused intense supply-chain disruptions. This shows the resilience of the sector, he added.
"This may attribute to the fact that Thailand manufactures a wide range of products, not just vehicles. And this helped the sector stage a fast recovery," he said.
The Commerce Ministry is expected to reveal the official preliminary export data tomorrow.
