Even though there is no official statement from the organizer, the reason behind the withdrawal is believed the concerning on the relationship between two countries.
“Twilight” is based on a book “Twilight Over Burma – My Life as a Shan Princess”
written from her true story Inge Eberhard (now Sargent). Sargent is the US scholarships Austrian student who falls in love with a young mining student from Burma Sao Kya Seng in 1950s. On their wedding day, she discovers that her husband is the ruling prince of the Shan State of Burma. Then a coup staged by the Burmese military, Sao is imprisoned and she does anything to bring him back.
In reality, the prince disappeared and Sargent took her two daughters to live in the US since then. The role Inge Sargent stars by the German actress Maria Ehrich meanwhile Sao’s character stars by a Thai actor Daweerit Chullasapya.
The“Twilight” was mainly filmed in Thailand, mainly in Chiang Mai and shooting some at Inle lake, at Tongyi, Myanmar.
“Twilight” was among other three films are withdrawn from the festival line-up.
