The statement said that the epicentre of the earthquake centred in the Nong Lu subdistrict, Sangkhlaburi district of Kanchanaburi was far from both dams and hence there was no seismic force affecting them.
At the Mon Bridge (Saphan Mon) in Nong Lu, tourists continue to visit the area to take photos and participate in morning activities, including offering alms to monks, despite the recent 4.0 magnitude earthquake.
Although travellers may have sensed the tremors while resting last night, there was no apparent anxiety or concern. This is because the earthquake occurred for only a short duration, approximately 10 seconds, the statement said.
At the same time, there have been no reports of damage in the vicinity of the Mon Bridge (Saphan Mon) and other structures, including residential areas, in the Sangkhla Buri.
At 3.07 am on Sunday, residents of Sangkhlaburi were startled from their sleep by a loud noise, and houses shook. Upon checking the earthquake reports from the earthquake monitoring centre, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake was confirmed with the epicentre in Nong Lu, at a depth of 6 kilometres. The impact was attributed to the movement of a fault line group.
The last major earthquake in Sangkhlaburi occurred on July 14, 2015, with a magnitude of 4.8 at a depth of approximately 4 kilometres.
