Highways from North, Northeast get busy as holidaymakers head back to Bangkok

Highways from North, Northeast get busy as holidaymakers head back to Bangkok

Traffic on two Bangkok-bound highways in Nakhon Sawan began getting congested on Monday afternoon when people started journeying back to the capital from the North and Northeast.

Though the Songkran holiday extends to Tuesday, many people who had left Bangkok for the traditional Thai New Year, decided to return a day earlier to avoid getting stuck in traffic.

As of Monday afternoon, Highway No 117 (Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok) and Highway No 122 (Nakhon Sawan bypass) were fairly busy.

Though there were many vehicles, the traffic in Nakhon Sawan’s Muang district was still moving at a good speed, only slowing down at key intersections, such as Dechart Tiwong and Jiraprawat Nakhon Sawan Army Camp.

Highway police officers deployed to monitor the traffic flow said one outbound lane will be turned into an inbound one if there is congestion.
