A construction camp in Nakhon Si Thammarat province has sparked fears of Covid-19 transmission after hiring migrant workers from Myanmar without first informing local officials.

Thirty-two immigrants were transferred from Songkla province to Nakhon Si Thammarat for a construction project of Tha Sila Hospital on April 16.
Residents who lived nearby expressed concern that the workers might spread Covid-19, so reported the situation to Tha Sila’s district chief.
However, action taken by the chief failed to satisfy local residents, who accused him of not prioritising public health concerns.
Apinan Chaowalit, president of the Subdistrict Administration Organisation of Tha Sila and Pongthep Fungtrakul, then sent public health officials to screen the workers in the camp.
Five of the workers were discovered to be suffering with fever. All have now been ordered to quarantine themselves in the camp.
